Acting & Performance Lecturer

Stewart Aitken

Stewart has worked in the arts and theatre in various guises for forty years. He trained at Queen Margaret College (now University) in the early 80s and has worked as an actor, theatre director and arts manager with many companies in the UK. He is currently working as a coordinator for the North East Culture Collective, an initiative bringing artists and communities together to explore new ideas and inspire people’s creativity. He is also one of the artistic team at Aberdeen based Theatre Company, Ten Feet Tall, Ten Feet Tall Theatre, where he directs, acts, and produces a range of projects. Prior to that, until 2018,  he spent 11 years as Artistic Director/CEO of Aberdeen International Youth Festival. Before moving to the North East of Scotland, he spent 6 years as Artistic Director of Wigan Pier Theatre Company (Greater Manchester) and 3 ½ years as Theatre Artist in Residence for the Scottish Borders Council. Acting work has included productions with a number of Scottish theatre companies including PACE (Paisley), Wildcat, Clyde Unity Theatre, Theatre Alba, The Byre (St. Andrews), The Brunton (Musselburgh) and on TV in Taggart and Dr Finlay. He has directed many youth and community based projects, as well as “Faith Healer” for Blue Tiger Theatre, “Border Fusion” for Cross Country Theatre, and various shows in the 90s with his own company First Base Theatre.
